Sue Higginson went on to say, ‘I do not support this method, but if it’s removed then we know an alternate method already developed by the native forest logging industry will be put forward, and it will mean that the logging continues and carbon credits will be generated from forests anyway.’
‘The most respected legal, ecological, and economic leaders in the environment movement recognise that this method is high integrity and will permanently protect forests.’
The federal Greens may likely vote with the National ect to disallow a method of forests for carbon credits inputted by environmental groups, and an industry method will be introduced instead, for a principled policy which will be lost either way.
We at the CEC adk that you contact the Greens and point this out to them. Some of them seem to not understand that the carbon credits system already exists, taking forests out of the logging pool permanently is what they are voting against, in return for a far less favourable outcome for the forests and a principled policy which is defeated anyway.
Please read Sue’s article on this in the Byron Echo: https://www.echo.net.au/2026/09/greens-mp-calls-for-colleagues-to-vote-with-forests/
And write to each of the federal Greems MPs, email addresses listed in the NEFA appeal to do so here: https://calderaenvironmentcentre.org/nefa-our-forests-cant-afford-to-wait-using-carbon-credits-to-save-forests/
