Welcome to the final NCEF newsletter for 2016, and for a while thereafter.
First of all, a huge thank you to everyone involved in this year’s forum – the sponsors, speakers, organising committee, and of course all of you who attended. As with previous years we had over 100 people there, despite a paucity of local media interest (thanks especially to the local World Rally Championship the weekend prior). And a special thanks too to the battery suppliers, some of whom came a long way to showcase the technology that is already transforming the energy sector (and it can’t come quick enough!).
Everything ran pretty smoothly on the day (considering Adam Marshall was delayed), and the evaluations were overwhelmingly positive, although we note the feedback from some that we tried to pack too much in (which to others was a virtue). However, we are always happy to take on advice about how to do things better, should be decide we are up for this task again in another year or two somewhere else in the region.
For the organisers it was always going to be a bit of a challenge to come down to Coffs from our base in recent years in the Northern Rivers, but we were heartened by local interest as well as the number of people who came up from Port as well as down from as far as the Tweed. We trust it was worth your while.
But the true measure of the event’s success was always going to be the extent to which it recognised and stimulated local connections, projects and ideas. In that sense it was good to see some 67 projects identified in the regional mapping exercise, many of them related to midscale commercial solar that often goes under the media and public radar.
We are in the process of updating the website to include links from the program page to pdfs of most of the presentations, pus photos from the event. We will also upload the results of the regional mapping exercise and the initiatives exercise that closed the day. If any of the initiators of those new projects want to use NCEF as a platform to keep people in touch with their progress, please let us know.
Finally, don’t forget that submissions close today to the NSW Government’s Draft Climate Change Fund Strategic Plan. If you want to have your say about how the $200 million could be put to good use to make the North Coast’s energy system more sustainable, click here.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday season. See you on the coast.

Convenor, for the NCEF organising committee
